Flood water enters Sajawal city

Floodwaters have entered Sajawal city, Raju Nizmani, Jati and Tando Hafiz Shah in Thatta district following a breach in Sarjani protective embankment. Army helicopters are actively involved in supplying food supply to the areas worst hit by the flood. Around 200,000 residents of Shah Bundar and Jati have been shifted to safer places in view of the floods. Turkish, Iranian and Saudi teams are also participating in the relief activities. |

ICC suspends Butt, Aamir, Asif

The International Cricket Council (ICC) charged three Pakistan stars accused in a betting scam with anti-corruption offences and provisionally suspended them, as the trio protested their innocence. According to details, ICC said Test captain Salman Butt and fast bowlers Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif were barred from taking part in all cricket matches with immediate effect, although they can appeal the suspension. The ICC said it had charged the three stars with offenses under its anti-corruption code and they had been provisionally suspended pending a decision on those charges. “We will not tolerate corruption in cricket – simple as that,” said ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat. Eid set deadline for degree verification

Out of 1085 degrees of legislators 371 have been checked and 50 found to be genuine while the Eid has been set the deadline for the leftover 599 degrees. Chairman Javed Leghari while addressing the media men yesterday said that the floods have delayed the verification process and extended the deadline till Eid-ul-Fitr. Chairman HEC Javed Leghari appealed to the government to not to curtail the budget of the body in the wake of devastating floods because the country needs 20000 PHDs and meanwhile 9000 students were completing their PHDs. |
Kamran Akmal cleared off fixing charges

In a new twist to the 'spot-fixing' scandal, ICC, Scotland Yard and ECB on Tuesday have cleared Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal off any match-fixing charges alleged against him. Akmal was not called by the UK police for the second round of interrogation where other three -- Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif - were called for questioning. Akmal was among the four players allegedly accused of spot-fixing in the fourth Test against England at Lord's. Earlier, former Australian wicketkeeper Ian Healy has declared Akmal completely innocent of match-fixing. Seven Pakistani players are being investigated by Scotland Yard detectives on allegations of deliberating delivering three no-balls during the team's fourth and final Test against England, which Pakistan lost on Sunday. Meanwhile, three more arrests have been made by the Customs investigators in connection with the ‘spot-fixing’ scandal involving Pakistani cricketers. Two men and a woman, all from London, were questioned on Monday night as part of an investigation into money laundering before being released on bail, HM Revenue and Customs said in a statement. A British TV reported that a 35-year-old woman from the Croydon area and a 49-year-old man in North London were arrested to investigate a second, separate, criminal investigation into allegations of cricket match fixing. “Mazhar Majeed, the Pakistan players’ agent and fixer at the centre of the News of the World story was re-arrested by the customs service as part of a connected investigation into money laundering. Majeed was arrested by the Scotland Yard on Saturday over allegations of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers. All three were questioned by customs investigators around suspicion of money laundering in connection with cricket match fixing and were released on bail. Majeed has been bailed to appear before police at a future date. He is alleged to have offered the bribes. |
Malik takes notice of the “Match Fixing” Allegations

Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik takes notice of the “Match Fixing” Allegations imposed on Pakstan cricket team. He says FIA investigative team would be sent to London to look into this matter. Federal Interior Minister said “Those who disgraced emotions of the Nation, won’t be spared”. While issuing orders for the departure of FIA investigative team Rehman Malik said all aspects of the matter including conspiracy-making would be investigated and a transparent investigation would be held. He also directed FIA team to coordinate with Interpol. Malik reiterated demand of a strick action to wipe out the dust of Match Fixing from Pakistan cricket. |
